Every Tuesday, we have a mentor dinner. All the exchange students are divided into groups of 15 or so and there are 12 groups. Each week, 2 groups will get together and have dinner together. This rotates for many weeks so that every group eventually gets a chance to eat with one other group and maximizes the opportunities to meet each other. 2 people from one of the two groups eating together will cook. So it was my turn to cook on 17th Feb.
I decided to cook fried rice and curry chicken. I got the curry paste and coconut milk from Asiana (asian supermarket) and bought the rest of the ingredients from the supermarkets.
On tuesday itself, Lisa (my partner from Canada) met up with me and we went to get alcohol for the dinner. Usually, dinners go through about 3 cartons of beers. We ended up with 72*500ml of beer and 2 bottles of white wine. Dong Joo offered to help me that evening in the kitchen. Throughout the evening and even after the dinner, he helped me to clean up the place so that I could still join them clubbing after the dinner. So since everything was cleaned by 11pm, I joined them at LG for a night of partying.
That night, I received many compliments about how great the dinner was. I don't know how many of them are paying lip service, but a mentor (dutch student) came up to me and said it's the best dinner she has had in the past 1 year of mentor dinners.
Lisa made salad and got marshmallows while I made the curry and fried rice. It was really quite easy to cook although it made quite a mess in the kitchen. Some of them who were not suppose to be here crashed the party because they think I can cook well... Haha, I seem to have earned a small reputation for myself for what I can cook. Shrugs.
